Chaucer Funchess

A native of Magee, Mississippi Funchess was a three-sport letterwinner at Magee High School before attending Copiah Lincoln Community College on a Football scholarship. After playing there for two season he went on to Oklahoma State where he was a two-year letterwinner. He received his Bachelor Degree from Langston University in Health and Physical Education. Chaucer resides in Magee, Mississippi with his wife, Dr. Tanya Funchess and son Chanse Funchess.

Chaucer has over 25 years of experience in Strength and Conditioning and Sports Performance. He started his career as a Student Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach at Oklahoma State University during the 94-95 academic year. Shortly after that, he became a Graduate Assistance Coach at University of Louisiana at Monroe during 1995-1996. In 1997, he became the Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) where he trained students in all 16 sports.

After 10 years of service with USM, he became the Sports Performance Director at Medicomp Physical Therapy. This position allowed him an opportunity to work with athletes at every level; from elementary to professional. He is committed to training athletes the proper techniques early in hopes they will be able to optimize their potential and minimize injury. He has built networks across the state helping coaches at the secondary and primary levels build their strength and conditioning programs. He continues to serve as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Simpson Academy; a position he has served in for the last 13 years. He also serves as the Director for Sports Performance for Apex Physical Therapy.
