Trigger points are tiny knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured or overworked. Dry needling is a relatively painless procedure in which a solid filament needle is inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point. A myofascial trigger point consists of multiple contraction knots, which are related to the production and maintenance of the pain cycle.

Trigger Point Dry Needling can be used to effectively treat:

  • Acute/Chronic Injuries
  • Headaches
  • Neck/Back/Hip/Knee Pain
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Tendonitis
  • Foot Pain/Plantar Fasciitis
  • Tennis/Golfer's Elbow
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle Strains

Generally speaking, dry needling is part of a comprehensive therapy program. Movement dysfunctions, muscle tightness and weakness need to be addressed to prevent the muscle from being overworked again. Apex physical therapists evaluate patients and their injuries to determine if dry needling is an appropriate treatment. Dry Needling will always be used in combination with other evidence-based treatments, such as exercises and manual therapy.
