Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine that is performed by placing cups on the skin, in order to create suction. The treatment is used as a way to relieve pain, promote relaxation, enhance blood flow, and ease inflammation. Our patients like cupping therapy for many purposes, including to help with pain, relaxation, well-being, and as an effective type of deep-tissue massage.
Cupping and MFD use negative pressure forces on suction cups to create lifting of the tissues. This creates space within the tissue layers for improved gliding and mobility. Unlike other forms of manual therapy that are compressive in nature, cupping and MFD are decompressive. Decompression helps release tight tissues, improve trigger points, improve blood flow and nutrient exchange and create a change to the neuromuscular system which allows for pain relief.
